Shana Tova

Tomorrow night is the beginning of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.

It is a beautiful holiday with lots of tradition.

As a culture, food is the center point of our holidays.

This holiday we eat apples with honey (to represent a sweet new year and the fall harvest)

Sweet challah with raisins and lots of yummy food at the meals.

It is easy to get caught up in the food frenzy.

I usually make 1 choice of something sweet and then eat my protein, and lots of salal and veggies.

Temptation is everywhere, there is alway s a holiday, party, wedding etc....

You need to make choices, if your goal is to be lean, fit and healthy then yes, sacrifices are to be made! Sorry.

Do choose 1 treat so you do not feel so deprived and end up on a binge!

I wish you all a very Happy & Healthy and Fit New Year.

Check out the link below it actually made me laugh

Getting Results

"Our results are a by product of our Actions"

This quote was sent to me today and resonated to my core.

We all have read or heard about "The Secret" the theory of ask and it is given.

It is not that simple.

Just wishing and hoping does not make things happen. We have to take action.

If we wish to lose weight praying and hoping will not help melt fat.

By taking action, exercising for 30 minutes 5-6 days a week and eating a healthy eating plan CAN help blast fat away and give you a strong lean body!

When we commit to change, and stay true to our intentions then success is gaurenteed!

Here is another before and after picture of Lorraine, who participated in my 6 Weeks to your Best Body program back in April. At the end of 6 Weeks she lost 18 pounds and now 5 months later she is down 26 pounds, has a whole new lifestyle and is an incredible inspiration to other people around her.

The before pictures were taken in late July/beginning August of this year while I was in Lake George. The after pictures were taken just this past weekend. It is not so much the weight loss but the inches also.

I had a great time shopping last week-end and not just for shoes. My co-workers have noticed that my old clothes are hanging at the butt and my new clothes are hugging the right places.

I will not say it is easy because it is not. There are days when I just want to sit on the couch and not move a muscle but I get myself up and do my exercises. The days I am at the gym, it may sound funny, but I play games with myself. If I am on the treadmill and there is another person beside me also running – in my head I compete with that person. I motivate myself to surpass that person and see how much longer I can go. It may sound weird but for me it works.

I have also had to train myself to eat 3 meals plus the snacks. At first it was difficult because I was used to skipping breakfast and really not having much of anything else healthy. It has now become a way of life and I actually look forward to eating breakfast.

I wish the weight would come off faster but I know slow and steady wins the race….so I keep going. My main goal was hopefully to be able to get off my meds for diabetes and so for the last 3 wks my bloods have been way down. My 2nd goal was to be able to look at myself in the mirror and not here my mother’s voice telling me I’m fat. I’m not there yet but when I look at myself in the mirror now… I see the beginning of what WILL be. I see some abs starting to form and my pot disappearing. I’m learning to like what I see so that is a major step up.

I want to thank you for all your help, motivation and daily emails. I open up my computer looking forward to reading your emails as I know they are always encouraging!! I have told many people about you and what you do and hopefully have said enough to motivate them to join. If I can do it on my own then so can anyone else.

With best regards,

Sari

Strip off the Fat

Losing weight is not difficult, burning fat is a different story.

If you exercise daily and think that you can eat whatever you want, then you are very mistaken.

You may get "firmer" and put on lean body mass, but you will not burn fat.

Combining proper nutrition with high intensity exercise is the answer.

You do not have to workout for hours, you can achieve your goals with only 30 minutes of exercise 6 days a week!

It is just as important when you eat not only what you eat.

The old saying "You are what you eat" is very true!

Think about lean protein, fibrous fruits and veggies

then think about Danish, cookies, chips, pizza.....

Which group will give you a lean, healthy look?

Until next time....

I welcome your comments and questions!

Heading home

It has been an incredible weekend!

Ryan Lee's Bootcamp is the single most important thing I have done professionally in 28 years!

I am inspired, motivated and ready to take action!

I love working with people and helping them burn fat, feel better about themselves and improve their quality of life.

This weekend showed me a different side of my business and I am ready to roll!

I was chatting with some ladies Saturday night and made a statement that was quite profound, they all wrote it down I said
"If you don't take control of your life, your life will control you".

It was a moment! But so true.

We cannot hope to make any changes in our lives if we do not know who we are and what we want. Certainly gives food for thought.

Are you doing what you want to be doing? Are you living your life true to your self and your intentions?

It is very hard to lose weight or stick to a program of weight loss if you do not know yourself or like yourself. You get 1 chance in this lifetime.

Live, laugh love!

Until next time.......

The Skinny on Fat - Article by Phyllis Frost CPT

The Skinny on Burning Fat by Phyllis Frost, CPT

Since I began in the Fitness industry 28 years ago I have been approached by many people looking to lose body fat. Sure they also wanted to improve their fitness level, be more toned, more flexible and build muscle but usually they would grab their “area” of discontent and exclaim “help me?!”.

The problem does not lay with these people looking for help, it lays in the way we have been instructed on how to lose weight. Let’s explore the concept of fat loss. Many people believe that in order to burn fat follow the “LSD (long slow distance)” theory. Did you know we burn fat as a fuel source all day, all the time? We also burn sugar all day all the time, too. Long slow distance, means keeping your heart rate at 65-75% of your maximum heart rate and doing cardio at a consistent rate for a minimum of 20 minutes. If you work at 85-95% of you maximum heart rate (MHR) then you are using more sugar as an energy source than you are fat – BUT you’ll burn more calories.

If you do 30 minutes of cardio at 65-75% of your maximum heart rate, you will probably burn around 225 calories, if you work at 85-95% you will burn approximately 400 calories ( this number will depend on your weight and how strong your metabolism is). When you are finished your exercise regime, the body experiences post exercises oxygen consumption which is required to help rebuild your energy systems in your body and this process consumes even more calories post workout. The higher the need to rebuild the body’s energy system the higher your metabolism.

Participants of the Fit Body by Phyl workshops have dropped 14.5lbs and lose 11.75 inches in under 5 weeks by following an exercise & nutritional program working out 30 minutes a day! Not an hour! If your goal is to burn fat perhaps re-think your training. Consider keep the intensity high (with doctor’s approval), perform exercises that use the big muscles groups for example, squats, lunges, deadlifts. Resistance bands on the ankles add intensity without overloading the joints. You can have an amazing full body workout in 30 minutes and GET results! Try interval training on your treadmill or elliptical trainer or even when you walk. If you are doing 30 minutes, try changing your pace every minute, switching between a recovery pace and a more intense pace. Be sure to have a 3 minute warm up and cool down period. Get in, get out, get results!

Now for nutrition. When the scale fluctuates you are losing weight but not always FAT. By cutting sodium out of your diet for a couple of days, water would flush out your system and that can easily attribute to weight loss, but when you go back to your regular diet the weight comes back on. It's not rocket science but often, that's what is going on when you experience those weight fluctuations

Fat is much more stubborn that that. If you want to watch the fat melt off your body you need to be eating the correct nutrients at the correct times. If you rotate your carb intake in just the right way you start to blast FAT off your body.

If you want to fit into your skinny jeans or rock in a bathing suit, you're going to need to work for it.

That’s the skinny on fat in a nutshell! Until next time………….

Wishing you health & fitness of body, mind & spirit,

Phyllis

Lovin Conneticut

Today I am attending Ryan Lee's Bootcamp in Stamford Conneticut and this is one awesome experience.

I am meeting amazing people in the fitness industry and learning from the masters.
What I love about us 40 somethings is that we have the life experience to realize what is important and there is such an amazing spiritual feeling in the room.

The guest speakers have been through so much in their lives and have come out the other side and it is so inspiring to be part of this.

So Scott, thanks for the Blog info, I am onboard and ready to go!!!

All this is going to help my 6 Weeks to your Best body" fat loss workshops soar even higher so I can reach out and help more people feel fantastic and look great too!

Off to dinner, see ya'll later.
